The Career Center offers a wide variety of career awareness activities, presentations and workshops to assist students in planning their futures. The Career Center is open Monday through Friday during school hours. The Career Center can assist students in determining what careers they might enjoy, and give them more information about the careers in which they are interested. Students can sign up for ROP classes that match their career interest, help them research colleges and trade schools, and find information on scholarships and grants to pursue their career goals.

Mission Trails-Regional Occupational Program
Mission Trails ROP offers twenty-two classes. These classes help students explore careers, decide on college majors, prepare for the world of work, or continue their training after high school. Through the Career Center students can sign up for these state-of-the-art programs which prepare students to enter the world of work.

In addition to earning credits, these ROP programs offer Certificates of Mastery. These certificates specify the particular skills/competencies that a student has mastered. These certificates are recognized and respected by employers.

ROP CO-OP and Work Experience Classes
CO-OP and Work Experience are classes that students can take while they have a job. These classes can enable students to earn up to 10 credits per semester by working and extend the permissible hours of employment. These classes usually meet one day per week at 7:00a.m.
Job Shadow
Job Shadowing is spending a day observing a person in the work force. Students can learn a lot about a career by Job Shadowing. It may even help students satisfy part of their community service requirement. Ask the Career Center staff how they might help set up a job shadowing experience.

CHOICES
All students will go through the Choices program at least once before the end of their sophomore year.
Choices engages high school students in an interactive process that builds self-knowledge, encourages them to explore occupations and schools, and helps them plan for their future. A friendly search process leads students to consider many options. The connection between occupations, majors, and schools- is all on one screen and the Choices Road Map makes it easy for students to use Choices on their own. The program directs students to hyperlinks of key web sites to enrich career exploration and suggests high school courses for career pathways to assist student in making solid plans.

Choices is available on computers in the library, Career Center and SHS’s computers labs. Ask Mr. Gebert or Mrs. Benedict for assistance.
